German Dog Names

Use my puppy names guide when choosing German dog names for your new friend.

DEUTSCHE HUNDE

Dogs have lived in Germany for thousands of years, dating back to before the Roman Empire. During that era, dogs were already domesticated, with families using them for herding, hunting, and protection. The same traits making these dogs popular then continue to be important today.

Over 100 years ago, the most famous German dog breed was developed. German shepards are known worldwide for their strong character and even today, are utilized for more than just house pets. You'll often see these working dogs in the armed forces, police departments, or even gracing the silver screen, a la' Rin Tin Tin!

Other dogs native to Germany include the dachshund, schnauzer, poodle, weimeraner, and lots more!
