Australian Dog Names

"Money will buy a pretty good dog but it won't
buy the wag of his tail."
Josh Billings

Australian dingo dogChoosing Australian dog names for your new pup is easy when you use my guide. Australia itself is so full of flavor and character, there are many good words to consider when picking Australian dog names.

QUICK DINGO FACTS

You may be surprised to learn that the most famous dog in Australia isn't native to Down Under. The dingo was brought to the continent 5000 years ago by primitive peoples and used as hunting partners, or, during lean times, as a food source itself. Genetic testing shows the dingo to be descendants of pet dogs from Southeast Asia. Because dingoes were genetically isolated for over 3500 years, they still look very much like early domesticated dogs.

Today, dingos are often considered a nuisance and are heading toward extinction. Though not an appropriate pet, it would be shameful to lose the wild dingo forever. As a link to the origins of all pet dogs, the dingo remains invaluable.

Did you know that only 15% of pets in shelters are returned home to their owners? When you've found a name, learn why it's important to put dog ID tags on your pet.
