Foster's Finds

Foster labored long and hard the last couple weeks, seeking out just the right fun site to show off to our subscribers. After long consideration, he came up with:

Dog of the Day, a feel-good site honoring beloved pets. Take a look and bookmark the site; every day they feature a new dog star!

Breed Spotlight: Boxers

If you know any Boxers personally, you know their high-energy, playful nature is just part of their fun personality. Also well-known for "woo woo"-ing when their excited and ready to play, Boxers do require a lot of exercise. They're smart and make wonderful family pets, especially with proper training. Keep your boxer exercised and mentally stimulated and you'll have one happy puppy on your hands!

Don't forget that before getting a dog, it's important to do a lot of research on your favorite breeds. "Comparison shop" wisely and you'll find the right fit for you and your family.

Here you'll find some of my favorite Boxer links:

Petfinder.com is an excellent source for locating homeless Boxer dogs. Rescue organizations are located all over the nation, so you'll definitely find one near you.
Learn about the German Shepherd breed standard at the American Kennel Club site.
If you own a Boxer, join Boxerworld.com, one of the best Boxer sources on the 'net.

Since Boxers hail from Germany originally, here's a few Boxer dog names I like: Foxi, Max, Ingo, and Rolf. Want to find more? Visit German Dog Names.

Dog Health: Yummy Dog Treat Recipes

What a great way to show your puppy how much you love her! Make her homemade treats better than anything you'll find at a pet store.

Bad Breath Banishers

Every pooch could use a little breather freshener. Let him snack on these and everyone will be happy.

2 cups brown rice flour
1 Tablespoon activated charcoal (find this at drugstores, not the briquets!)
3 Tablespoons canola oil
1 egg
1/2 cup chopped fresh mint
1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley
2/3 cup lowfat milk

Preheat oven to 400F. Lightly oil a cookie sheet. Combine flour and charcoal. Add all the other ingredients. Drop teaspoonfulls on oiled sheet, about 1 inch apart. Bake 15-20 minutes. Store in airtight container in the refrigerator.

Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits

It's well-known that puppies love peanut butter! These easy-to-make yummies will satisfy her craving.

1 ½ cups water
½ cup oil
2 eggs
3 tablespoons peanut butter
2 tsp. vanilla
2 cups flour
½ cup cornmeal
½ cup oats

Blend wet ingredients together. Whisk dry ingredients together and mix into wet mixture to form a ball of dough. Roll out and shape. Put onto a non-stick cookie tray or lightly greased one. Cook 20 minutes at 400 F. Turn off oven and allow the biscuits to cool in oven until crisp and hard. Store in airtight container.

Celebrity Dog News

Handsome movie star Paul Walker (you know him from Fast and the Furious and the current underwater flick Into the Blue) is a major pet lover! His own Golden Retriever, Boone, stars as his dog in Paul's latest movie, making Into the Blue a great movie for gals and their pooches to see together. Jessica Alba, owner to cute pugs Sid and Nancy, also stars in the movie. A little something for everyone, huh, ladies? ;)

Thanks for reading!
Regards,
Jennifer
