4 Reasons Dog Owners Use A Muzzle
We all love our puppies - a lot. But that doesn't mean that tough love isn't sometimes this best way to manage your dog. Many dog owners notice other dog owners using a muzzle for their dog, and they don't understand it. Sometimes they will even give a nasty look to the dog owner that is using a muzzle. However, there are instances in which a muzzle is necessary. Here below are 4 reasons why dog owners use a muzzle.
1) The primary reasons to use a muzzle is that it prevents a dog from being able to bite. Unfortunately, many dogs bite, and while training can help to minimize the biting, a muzzle can be helpful to use before the dog learns not to bite. Also remember that some cities will make a dog owner put down a dog that continues to bite, so sometimes, a muzzle can actually save your own dog's life.
2) One big challenge dog owners face is trying to allow a wound to heal. Often a dog will continue to bite, nip, chew, and lick the irritating skin. This causes the wound to not heal property and the more the dog irritates it, the longer it will take to completely heal. The muzzle can prevent the dog owner from affecting the wound, as it doesn't allow them to bother it.
3) During long walks, sometimes dog will find something to eat that isn't good for them. Even grass, which can have chemicals on it - is not good for dogs to eat. The muzzle can work well to prevent dogs from eating obscure and dangerous objects when they are out of the house. This can be very helpful for those using a dog walker - as the walker may not pay as much attention as you do to what the dog is finding on the ground.
4) A muzzle can be used when the dog plays with other dogs or young kids. Even if the dog isn't likely to bite, it can put other dog owners and parents at ease which may be a good thing. If someone with a young kid isn't comfortable having your dog around, a muzzle can come in handy.
Again, the muzzle can be a temporary thing only used for certain situations. It can be useful, helpful, and ensure safety. So, the next time you see a dog owner using a muzzle, try to understand that there may be a good reason behind it.
