May 4, 2007 06:33 - Redbone
This dog name story was sent to me by Julie from North Carolina, USA:Red was a red - golden retriever so no other name would have fit him better. He was my buddy and he was red to the bone. We are now getting a yellow, golden retriever/lab mix in a few days (Red has been gone 18 months) and I have been on the computer for days looking for just the right name. I truly did not have this much trouble naming my son.
Dear Julie:
Thanks for sharing your story about Red; it sounds like you found just the perfect name for him! As for your new little pup, I suggest you get him home and give it a day or two before deciding on a name. Once you really get to know his personality, you may be surprised to find that he picks out his own name.

May 5, 2007 07:37 - Girl Dog Name - Boston Terrier
Laeticia from Western Cape, South Africa asks:Please suggest an appropriate name for my new female Boston terrier.
Whereas they are normally black with white markings, this one is a "Frenchy", i.e. only black markings on head, rest is white!
Dear Laeticia:
I have a soft spot for Boston terriers; they are just too adorable! Because of her Frenchy qualities, may I suggest:
Brie
Nikki
Bisou
Isabelle (Izzy for short!)
Gigi
Whatever you decide, I know you'll find just the right name for your lovely pup!

Snickerdoodle is a kind of cookie.
Another name could be Snickers or Skittles.
Sound like perfectly sweet names to me. Thanks Hanna!

May 7, 2007 10:16 - Border Collie - Girl Dog Name
Renee from South Carolina, USA, sent in her story:When I got a phone call from a breeder I had become friends with saying she had this awesome puppy she needed to find just the right home for, I thought how can I take one one more dog? I already had five border collies. But this pup had been evaluated by a top border collie expert and was "pick of the litter" for temperament and sports potential. How could I refuse? So we made the arrangements and on Tuesday, October 10th, Zeta came into our lives. Her name was as unique as she was. From the moment I saw her, I knew she was special. She was the most uniquely marked, piebald smooth coat I'd ever seen. She was almost four months old and the most focused girl. We flew through puppy class with her doing everything as expected the very first time. She was a doll with people and dogs alike. She was going to start therapy class in January.
Unfortunately, we lost Zeta on December 10th, just a short two months after she came to bless our lives. She succumbed to a fungal infection that triggered an allergic reaction and took her from us. We still grieve for her.
However, on the way home from the animal hospital, just a few moments after she was gone, the brightest shooting star I've ever seen shot across the sky. Zeta was running again, free of pain, and letting us know she was okay. Zeta was, and still is, a shooting star whose light, though short, burns bright and brings comfort to all.
Thank you, Renee, for sharing with us!

Sarah from Australia wrote:Rory was a bit of a loner in the litter of staffies my dog Nahli had. The rest of the puppies were either black or brindle and Rory was a reddish-brown.
I named him Rory because Rory means "king of red."

May 9, 2007 10:33 - Girl Dog Name - Chinese Crested
From Olivia in South Africa:We have so many dogs, cats, fish, and horses that whenever we walk into a pet shop my parents say 'No more pets, we're just looking'. So we just imagine and fantasize about having more pets.
Then the one day we came across a Chinese Crested puppy . It was the cutest thing you have ever seen, and she looked so vunerable and scared. My parents could not put her down, and so we eventually took her home. It's funny- some dogs are just meant to be with your family, like destiny. Anyway, 4 months have gone by and she totally outshadows all the other dogs; she's highly intelligent, fun, sensitive, and house-trained.
We HAD to name her Paris- as in Ms Hilton- it's so glam and well-suited.

May 10, 2007 13:37 - Biton - Bichon/Coton de Tulear Mix Boy Puppy Name
Jessica from California wrote in:My little 4 month old Biton is the cutest thing you ever layed your eyes on. He is a Bichon mixed with a Coton De Tulear. So he is just a little white cotton ball. I wanted to call him Biaggi, or Randy, but after a day or so, Bee Gee came to mind and he is a perfect bundle of joy.
I was a big Bee Gee fan back in the 70's so it was decided that we would call him Bee Gee.
LOVE HIM, LOVE HIM, LOVE HIM.

May 16, 2007 08:55 - Weebus - Boston Terrier Dog Name
April from Washingston State, USA, shares her story:I ran across the name on a children's story writing website and decided that it had to be the name for the Boston puppy I was searching for. Luckily when I finally found a pup we was a big rolly polly boy who looked just like a weebus!
He is a large Boston, nearly 40 lbs., which I guess is what to expect when you name a dog "small bus!" :)

May 18, 2007 06:54 - Boy Puppy Name
Megan sent in this great story (and kudos for the site...thanks, Megan!):I wanted to tell you that your site is wonderful, I stumbled across it while searching for help with my puppy biting problem (any advice is greatly appreciated). I thought it would be a good idea to share all my dog's names with you.
I recently moved out of my parent's house, but over there I've got three Shih Tzu doggies with three interesting names. The oldest one is a boy, he's about 12 now, and his name is 'Wicket Chewbacca'. I didn't see Wicket on your Star Wars names page, so I thought I'd let you know that in the books, Wicket is the Ewok that finds Leia, remember? Lol! I'm sure you remember who Chewbacca is. The next oldest dog is about 6, she's a girl, and her name is Kneessaa Maula. Kneessaa is, (in the books) Wicket's best friend, and Maula is Chewbacca's wife that lives on their home planet. You can see that my dad is a big star wars fan! The last doggie, only a baby at 2 years old, is named Rosha. We just made that up. :)
Anyways, I was recently given a puppy for Valentines Day, a sweet little yellow lab with a biting/nibbling problem. My boyfriend said he was mine on one condition: He got to name him. My boyfriend is a HUGE Superman fan, I mean tattoo and everything, and he decided to name my puppy Kal'El, which is Superman/Clark Kent's kryptonian name back on his home planet.
Well, that's it, but I seem to be the queen of interesting dog names, so I thought i'd send you the story about my doggies.
Keep up the good work and your website is wonderful!

May 22, 2007 07:48 - Dog Names from the Road
My family and I are traveling to San Francisco this week, with stops along the Central California coast in San Simeon and Monterrey.I've run into a couple happy dog owners along the way and have made a point of asking their pups' names:
Dolly is a tri-color Australian Shepherd with a love of the beach.
Cassie is a Welsh Terrier-mix puppy who was rescued from the humane society.
And Frisco? Well, Frisco is a cute bulldog puppy who loves to give kisses.
More names to come...from the road.

May 25, 2007 10:13 - Male Dog Name - MacTavish
Aaron from Australia tells the story of his family's Red Heeler/Staffie cross, Mac:When I was little our dog MacTavish (Mac for short),came up and licked me all the time and that was when I was 3. Now I'm 10 and he still does do it!
Mac was 1 when i was 3; now he is 13 years old and fell in our pool the first time we got to Carews Fields in Old Reynella! My mum had to jump for him with all her clothes on!

May 27, 2007 11:44 - More Puppy Names from the Road
On our way home from San Francisco, we stopped at a nice little rest area just south of Stockton. Though the evening was hot, the park benefited from a cool breeze coming off the nearby river. While my kids played, I met two little girls with pups of their own. Michelle, aged 8, is a proud owner to Taz, an adorable teacup chihuahua and little Lily, aged 7, trooped around with her lovely Corgi, named Buddy.

May 29, 2007 09:32 - Genji and Willie - Great Names for a Puppy
This post hails from Chris in Kansas, USA:For years I had worn a perfume called Genji (soft g-rhymes with benji). Strangers would stop and compliment me on it. I loved the name and decided if I got another dog I would name her Genji.
It is a very unique name and our Genji is very special to us as is our Willie the westie.
They are very smart and quite comical.
